Scarlett's obsession with Ashley would have made more sense if they were childhood sweethearts. All I really got out of the movie was that she was a spoiled , ruthless, self-serving brat that wouldn't give up even after Ashley married. At least she did some growing up when her father died, (she had to be in charge of the estate). Rhett Butler was actually a better person than she was. I've seen a lot better developed plots, to be honest.
