By letting CEOs make as much profit as possible means that as many goods are manufactured as possible to better the quality of life for people as much as possible.
As for pollution if a government sets laws and upholds them then a CEO cannot break those laws.
As for an international code of laws that is disgusting what right does one country have to impose its will on others? None, sounds like the EU- Urghh.
The Problem is corrupt and/or stupid governments not CEOs.
Making money in markets has always been about recognizing value first. The premise is as old as Jesus or Hippocrates. IF when you encounter a culture (ethnic group) that either refuses your product or does not fully understand it- you "make them understand it" so that you get that particular countrys Phoenician currency du jour. Our CEO system is based on 1500 AD Emporer hierarchies. Change the way authority is distributed (ie. group, geometric, lateral) or your whole Davos Debate is for naught.
Can the collective agency of a company or its major divisions be ultimately reduced to the CEO? The CEO may ultimately be accountable, but he or she is only one person with imperfect information about the full range of activities of the company. This collective and shared agency also has greater potential to do harm.
Great video. Pablo, to follow up on the distinction between CEOs and service professionals, what do you make of the fact that the corporate entity, of which the CEO is admittedly the head, is constituted by many individuals, each of whom also possesses agency and the ability to act unethically. This seems to complicate implementation of any code. Even if the CEO acts according to some code of behavior, ethical principles would also have to be built into the operating principles of the company
WTF Joker, i see you comment on every Davos Debates video. What , you lose the contest now you are jealous? If you are here to say is idea is useless, at least give us an argument, an alternative.
Me lose a contest about useless student dribble? No. An alternative is reality. If you think Dr's or Lawyers or Corps or Gov's have ethics, just read the news.
I agree with you a 100% Pablo you worded everything perfectly. Great Job!!! Your argument is so well spoken, that the idea of not having a code of ethics seems ridiculous.
