The act of saying that there is no God is not a proclamation of certainty. There are very few certain things in this universe. Yet we speak with certainty through the basis of statistical probabilities. We can not know whether the sun will rise in the morning, yet we are very confident that it will. We do not know whether martians exist, yet we say there aren't. We do not know whether a god exists, yet we say there isn't because there is no evidence otherwise.

While everyone is having an in depth philosophical discussion, can I just observe the peaceful beauty that is the music itself. One does not have to appreciate the subject to appreciate the means by which it is conveyed :)

This music takes us away from discursive thought, and we are the better for it.

There are still women like her, but they are not in the limelight: nurses, caretakers etc........

If an object large enough collided with earth at the ride angle it could slow down earths rotation giving us days longer then 24 hours or even reverse earth's rotation so that the sun would begin rising in the west. We know this is possible because it has happened in our own solar system to one of our jovian planets

You have missed the point entirely. I don't think you understand what you're arguing about. I had said that we place extraordinary confidence in things which are not certain. You have plucked out a single example which I had provided and hope to disprove a well-established tendency.

So we can continue until you disprove every irrational bit of confidence we have.

When you tell a friend that you will see them again, you do not know whether you will see them again.

Brilliant woman. I wish she had been born in our time to spread her wisdom upon us all.

If an asteroid stuck Earth then the Sun would mostly definitely continue to rise. Approximately 66 million years ago an asteroid 10km in diameter collided into the Gulf of Mexico causing the extinction of the dinosaurs. Yet, even after such devastating sequences of events life still thrives throughout our planet. The Sun still continues to rise.
