On December 28, 1953, Chicago area kids were introduced to the whimsical story of Suzy Snowflake "tap, tap, tappin'" on every windowpane, seen on "Garfield Goose and Friends" then on WBBM-TV. Like "Hardrock, Coco and Joe", Suzy too was brought to life by the stop-motion animators of Centaur Productions. Norma Zimmer was Suzy's voice and the song was sung by The Norman Luboff Choir, a premier studio group who recorded with well-known artists, such as Frank Sinatra and Harry Belafonte. I am so moved. Thank you for this. It was my favorite christmas time cartoon. It always made me sad when she said "I haven't long to stay". Beautiful singing. Beautiful time.

It's hard to believe now but, in the early 1950s, even in NYC, TV stations could not always sell all the commercial spots between shows; so they put in fillers to take up the time until the next program started. During most of the year they ran public service announcements like Smoky the Bear. At Easter they added Peter Cottontail; at Christmas, Suzy, Frosty and Hardrock, Coco & Joe. Most, I think, were on channel 4, WNBT. I never saw Suzy or Frosty in a cartoon program. Only in between.
