merle travis is turning this into a mockery of a more authentic kentucky banjo song about a jailbird who escaped from bowling green prison (which i believe is in missouri), and he was one of the first used as bait for the bloodhounds they sent on his track. I believe her outwitted the hounds by running round the most obscure of places where the hounds couldnt reach.
How surprised would we be if the country stars of today could hold our attention like Merle Travis just did? And cause our feet to tap with only an acoustic and thumb pick!
