"After tomorrow those goddamn Kennedys will never embarrass me again—that's no threat—that's a promise."

That's what Johnson said the day before JFk was slaughtered.

Who was he talking to? It is well known that he used the "N" word when talking to Southerners to 'prove' he was with them and would not use tehe term when he was talking to Northern Liberals. What is the context?

I've listened to this recording several times, as well as his other recordings in his memiors and I think he's saying "Negroes," and it's just his accent and the speed at which he talks making it sound like the n-word. I disagree that it's "obvious," but in light of his other recordings, I'd have to say he saying "negroes."

The "N" word...a word that black people use 700 times a day on each other.

The problem with Dixiecrats was not that they were Democrats, but that they were Southern. A few of the Southern Democrats voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Not one of the few Republicans from the former Confederate states did. In 1964 the Deep South went for Goldwater because he was less keen on civil rights than LBJ.

How about this:
Conservatives: Lower taxes for all; strong military; defenders of our allies; back up our diplomacy with action.

Democrats: Tax increases only for the rich that somehow end up hitting the rest of us (while rich Dem Senators laugh); More handouts, programs and earmarks for constituents; Bind the military with political interference; Back up diplomacy with empty threats that dictators laugh at.

As Thatcher said, "the trouble with socialism is you run out of rich people to tax."
