Primaries are the prelims to the national election wthin each political party. You may have heard of the Democrat and GOP primaries, wherein candidates who seek their parties nomination in the general election(what was described in this video) campaign against each other in all 50 states. The GOP primary winner then becomes the nominee for president on the GOP side. Same for the Democrats. The 2 nominees than campaign against 1 another in a general election, and the winner becomes the president
Why to complicate everything with counting States, electors, senators.?.. Why don't USA just gather every citizen's vote in the USA and count who is the President?
Because the people in charge don't trust the public at large to vote in qualified candidates. The thinking goes that if direct elections were to exist people would just vote in Snoop Dog or some unqualified popular figure. The founders wanted a barrier between the government and the people.
