Who knew Sittler could fight as well as score? I gained more respect for Sit in a loss than I could ever have for Holmgren for ANY of his wins.

Holmgren is a big-jawed mutant who's very presence will curse the Flyers for as long as they continue to employ his sorry ass. He never won anything except a few carefully-chosen fights.

Holgrem was such a dirty piece of crap... he fights with a shield on and even tried to headbutt Sittler... a damn coward.... what a terrible trade off for the Leafs.... losing Sittler for fighting with a 5th liner... I"m glad that later in his career he got his head beat in....lol!

"Thank God the Habs whipped them in '76 and saved hockey!" you would make a great program director for RDS ..Regardless of what effect the WHL had on the NHL, attendance went down during the Habs run while the Flyers had the highest road attendance of anyone. As far as whipped? I think I recall the first 3 games as 1G games, game 4 was was a whopping 2G win. I'll be the first to admit the '76-'79 Canadians were probably the best team ever, but 2 Cups & 7 Finals were not from picking on whimps.

"The Flyers were just goons with no talent" , or as someone said below "they would get their asses kicked" . How about "they weren't that tough",, make up your minds you hockey experts. The Bruins faced the Flyers in 1974, so why did they not win?,,,,,Maybe its time for a new excuse from the English professor JSGU, eh?

Slap Shot is a 1977 film starring Paul Newman and Michael Ontkean and directed by George Roy Hill. The film is based on a screenplay written by Nancy Dowd, based in part on her brother Ned Dowd's experiences playing minor league hockey in the United States in the 1970s, during which time violence, especially in the low minors, was the selling point of the game.

When I want to watch a game, I like to see hockey, not roller derby. Don Cherry is right: real tough guys don't pick fights with another team's non-tough guys. See above about Schultz trying to entice Norm Ullman to fight. I love fighting and big hits - but not crap like the Flyers did back then. Without their crap, the movie "Slapshot" would never have been made - it was intended to be a parody of the type of hockey the Flyers promoted. Thank God the Habs whipped them in '76 and saved hockey!

Boy that's a well thought-out and intelligent response. Did you pass Grade 6? And who typed in the numbers for you?
