I'm sure this has been said before here-why aren't they one of the biggest bands in the world? Such an underrated band-so influential.

The reason these guys aren't huge is because of the record companies. This band is different. The record companies don't have the balls to support them. They only back bands that use a formula that has worked in the past. That is why all the bands on the radio sound like two or three bands.

Reply to Kkrouton: The record companies didn't market this kind of music until it was being played by white Fishbone-Wannabes like Sublime, No Doubt, Mighty Bosstones, and the Chili Peppers. Fishbone started this kind of music, and got stepped over by the record companies

I agree that Fishbone has been unjustly ignored by the record companies. I'm not sure the other bands you mentioned got support because they are "white". And I'm not sure Fishbone "started" this kind of music. Fishbone was primarily a ska band when they started out. They themselves didn't start adding the other styles to their music until later. By that time the Chili Peppers, Bosstones, and Jane's Addiction were already pretty popular. Still Fishbone is a great and original band.

I concur with kkrouton.. until a band jhas proven its marketability, they are controlled by record companies, and record companies like to have a specific audience for their bands. Fishbone's style is almost impossible to pin down, so record companies largely ignored them.

Talent means nothing compared to a bands ability to sell records and make money. A very unfortunate truth in Fishbone's case.

It's just a shame that no major record company has the balls to sign and support this band. It's no wonder that they are getting their asses kicked by on-line music sales. People don't want to pay $20 to buy an album with one good song on it. They try to blame the on-line music sellers, but they have no one but themselves and their own cowardly shortsighted practices. I predict that unless they make a major change to their philosophy, they will be out of business in ten years.
