Are you kidding me? The police should not have brought animals to the protest. Those veterans had every right to get in. As did groups that have presidential candidates on the ballot. What you don't get is that in order to live in a free society these things have to happen. Being passive never helped any society move forward. I'm proud of the people on this video.
obviously the police are going to lose control of their horses when theres hundred of people screaming and chanting in their face. It was reasonable for the police to try to take care of the situation by arresting or removing the people who were leading the protest. i was there in the backround with a group of people who were there to protest but were smart enough to know their limits. to me the people in this video were just looking for someone to yell at.
Because of the large number of dignitaries in attendance, the north campus of Hofstra University was a secure area. NOBODY was allowed to enter without having been prescreened at another location and then transported there by bus. Under NO circumstances were the police going to allow any of the demonstrators in, including the Iraq War veterans.
I want to challenge the assumption that certain "special" people on this planet deserve so much security that the rights of others to assemble, protest, and exercise free speech are so viciously trampled and dismissed. You need to prove why dignitaries deserve such threatening security. Not why they NEED it, everyone knows the danger of armed lunatics appearing out of crowds - but why they deserve to be treated with such a different level of respect than other humans.
