The Health Dangers of Genetically Modified Foods

This is a lecture by Jeffrey Smith, in which he summarizes the contents of this book. It's not only informative, but amusing, because he casts a joke here and there. Part 2 at http://www.youtube.co...

Excuse me but I depend on healthy food to stay alive. If there is none avaiable how can I fight back. I cannot eat genetically modified white flour, corn, soy, or vegetable oils. Poison your own food...keep it away from mine. I am glad bleeding hearts like yourself have nearly cost me my life, but seriously, I do not want and absolutely refuse to consume frankenstein foods thanks I would rather shoot myself

People have been adding the genes of fish/rubber/rats/pesticides (roundup) into their foods for millenia?

it's not that they don't have enough evidence to back up their claims. It's because both sides do not have enough evidence to back up neither claims. GMO is certainly a beneficial technology, but it is still in its infant form. It needs to be further tested (long term) so we know for sure if it is safe. All these scientists are simply asking for more studies to be made, not that GMO is bad =)

That's totally not true man. GMOs have been around since 1982, and there have been c barely any issues that have arisen. With this in mind, this makes GMOs one of the safest technologies out there. One thing people aren't taking into account is cost-benefit analysis. Zambians are starving because their president refuses to take our corn which is mostly GMO. The technology is here, has a safe record and HIGHLY scrutinized. We can start helping children with golden rice now, not later

@pseizure2000 Let me address your point with the Zambians. The Zambians are not starving because we refuse to ship our corn over to them, they are starving not because they have no food. Zambians have plenty of it, it's cuz they can't afford the commodity. With the "Golden Rice," it contains so little Vitamin A that ppl literally would have to eat KG's of it in order to get the recommended daily dose. There are plenty of other alternatives.

The point is the Zambians are STARVING. We can help them by GIVING them food. Their president calls our food GMO "poison", and refuses our food. This is the point. Because their president shares these ignorant views people will die that didnt have to. Can you excuse this? And you are wrong about golden rice. Today's strains provide enough Vit A for a day's reqs in only 75 grams, and is better absorbed than in other foods. But you won't see it in anyones plate. Thank you greenpeace.

people don't starve cause they don't have access to food...it's because their governments don't allow them access to food. Governments are the problem and cannot possibly be the answer. The government is actually a corporation. Corporations RUN our government ...not the other way around. If anyone is starving it is most likely because a government is involved.

I guess also I should point out your main statement of more testing. Thing is, testing right now is ridiculous. A company must jump through hoops to get their product out to market now due to public fear and scrutiny. There is no way to completely eliminate risk. Yet some countries' laws now require this, wtf. Each country must have its own testing, even if tested extensively in the US. A modified raspberry can cost around 100 million to bring to market, so obviously no one will do it.

@pseizure2000 You are correct that testing is expensive. but that doesn't mean they shouldn't do it. the public has the right to be fearful of such a powerful technology, it's the scientists and the industry's job to make sure it's safe. Of course there is no way to completely eliminate the risk, but you can mitigate it. That can only be done through proper and extensive testing =)

My point was not to remove testing. My point is that there are too many laws and regs against GMOs right now. Did you know there are cultural loss and competitivity loss liability proposals that are very close to becoming law? So if someone makes a better product than someone else, they can be sued? Do you see what I'm saying. The technology has one of the safest track records, yet people keep putting up roadblocks, impeding science and business progress.
