This is the most overrated speech in the history of movies. It makes 0 sense. Tom Cruise is the one who is trying to save Santiago's killers. He's the one who's standing up for the marines and saying they were just doing their jobs. Jessup is the one sending them to prison by fabricating all sorts of lies. If he truly believed the words he was saying, he'd be standing up for his men instead of letting them be convicted... Jessup is just a punk liar.

What your overlooking is that it never was suppose to go to trial but instead take a plea bargain and be free in a couple of months
Jessup is correct in his own way, Someone has to stand on that wall, Cruise won't do it but has the nerve to expect to do it. You owe some of your freedoms to the Jessups of the world

In reality he is a True Marine Colonel is mush the same. A undiciplined man in the squad is a threat to rest of his squad members. So he was being motivated to transfer out. The bad thing is two young marines ended up with a murder charge. There is a point that you can't go past. But if you think this dosn't happen think again..
