TV from the 1960's

These clips from repeated episodes shown many years ago give a feel for what the series was like and of course that famous sequence of striking the match!!

Ahh that theme tune! A pure slice of my childhood. My mum loved Maigret. I think she thought it was a touch more sophisticated than Dixon! We never missed an episode- you couldn't- back then there was no such thing as repeats. Miss it and it was gone for good! Thanks for letting me hear that wonderful original theme tune again. And straight after I finally found the Gideons Way theme tune too! (now I know why I thought of that one whenever the Channel 4 News theme played)!

I so love these memories! It is so weird watching it knowing that once I was only a little girl viewing it with no knowledge of anything future! Superb.

The Maigret theme takes me back to my childhood and the old black and white TV days. My Da would never miss an episode of Maigret. That theme is so evocative for me.

Georges Simenon's Maigret and Agatha Christie's Hercules Poirot are my two favorites detectives. Never get tired of watching Maigret and Hercules Poirot episodes. Do you know a website where I can go to watch Maigret?

I recently read somewhere that Georges Simenon said of Rupert Davies on first seeing him .... C'est Maigret, c'est Maigret!

Rupert Davies was the best Maigret actor ever IMHO.
I just can't understand why they don't put this class series on dvd, or broadcast it again on TV.
That's beyond me. really...

Ah, set in France but not trying to mimic the French accent! I only wish there was a TV station that broadcasted classic TV shows such as this.

I came across the theme music on a 7" single in a charity shop. I didn't know what I was buying, but I like most music from that era anyway. I wasn't disappointed.

This is a treat. I'm sure it used to be on Thursday nights. I remember as a kid going to the shop to buy a box of Smarties and a bottle of lemonade to have while I watched it.

Do you have an episode from series 2 (Jan 1962) called "The White Hat"?

Sorry but I can only put up what heads my way. I only started collecting programmes so I could watch them on correct era television sets. And yes I do watch this on 405 lines..
