Look, Thrope was is his prime then and Phelps was up and coming. No sense in trying to say who would win if Thorpe had kept swimming and possibly lowered his best times.
I will say this, at this Olympics Phelps won 6 golds, and although the 200 back was a much more realistic shot for Phelps at another medal, he chose to swim this,. Why? Because he wanted to compete against the best and push himself to do something that he couldn't do on paper. You have to respect that.

Its always funny to hear the colonies fight over who's the best. Thorpe, Phelps and Hoogenband all finished a within what 0.7 of a second or something. fuck me let it go. they all have their peak times, and their all the best at their own times.
