His album "Changes" is still one of my favorites. It has several great songs on it, and in my opinion the best version ever of "If I Were a Carpenter".

The backup singers are not the 5th Dimensions. Its the Blossoms, with Darlene Love. Johnny did introduce the 5th Dimensions to Jimmy Webb and the rest is history.

just listen to the way it was produced. the flute with reverb overmaxed made it sound so haunting, the bass sounds like he used a pick, plus the lush strings, beautiful

Haunting is a description I would have used. This song has always been something very special for me...it just goes right through me.A timeless classic that sounds better every time I hear it.
