I'm not exactly a professional theater / ballet critic (nor have I seen the rest of this production...) - but doesn't it seem fitting for Romeo & Juliet?
It's like a funeral dirge, heavy & oppressive - like the world that these two star-crossed lovers inhabit; trapped in a world that won't let them be together the way they wish to be.
Admittedly, R&J is my least favorite of Shakespeare's works, but if anything fits this work, it's a somber & heavy atmosphere.
