Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is a 1987 film, the last of the Superman theatrical movies starring Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel. In this film, Superman battled Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) and his creation, a solar-powered evil clone of Superman called Nuclear Man.
Unlike the previous three movies, which were produced by Alexander and Ilya Salkind, the fourth movie was produced by Golan-Globus' Cannon Films, in association with Warner Bros.

I just think people got frustrated, because this movie could have been much much better than it was. No budget, and bad editing and worst of all, a bad super Villian, I mean, "Nuclear" man? Come on. Otherwise, the potential was there. Afterall, they brought back Gene Hackman, and he is awesome.
i just noticed in superman returns his earth mother is alive in the beginning but in super man 3 and 4 she is dead which makes me think that superman returns was made to come after superman 2
Actually I think the downfall was the shitty script and the $20 budget ... it's not like he didn't do the movie with the best of intentions, and I like some of the message, but I'm not judging on intent, I'm judging on results!
