Her routine looks easy now, but just think of this: that back salto she did would be practised hundreds of times a day on a solid, dense, cold hard wooden beam. No luxury of padding and moleskin to make the beam more forgiving. And no springs in the beam either to make it easier. Just cold, hard wood. No wonder she had problems with her ankles. Amazing.

Yes, she did. She also won the gold for her exhilarating floor exercise. She was fabulous.
