I have Vista Home Basic and it runs fine... just not as well as Ubuntu.

That's what I'm using right now, it's amazing. I bet it could give Windows 7 a run for it's money.

My Vista has never had BSOD before and it's the fastest laptop I ever had. I have one of those Big Screen Mac computers and Vista has always been better and I'm a gamer and on Mac I can't download or play every game that I can on the Vista but everyone has their own choices/demands

Yep, Ubuntu 9.10 is pretty much perfect as an OS. It actually looks good as well. Been struggling to find a Linux distro that did.

I use Linux Ubuntu and love it. Vista was terrible and that's why I switched to Linux. Haven't tried Windows 7 yet.

In your eyes and for your purposes — why not. I'm running a debian host server: Stable and reliable, but it would be hard to run the adobe creative suite and I know no distribution which offers the same usability as Windows or Mac OS.
