For one, I am not a Socialist, so you might as well save the "Capitalism cures cancer" argument. Two, economic freedom has its limits. If you do not manage certain aspects of the economy, things are going to fall apart.

For example, in the great United States of Redneck America, the CDS market has gone completely unregulated since its introduction in 1997. I think we all know how that worked out. There ain't a single liquid bank between here and the European Union. Ain't that a bitch?

You might have heard this a lot of times in debates but let me repeat it again. Capitalism has raised the lives of people from poverty better than any other system, some people alive today wouldn't be alive if it weren't for the medical innovations of capitalism. You wouldn't be using a computer if it weren't for capitalism. History is crystal clear, it's only in the countries where private property is sacred that the lot of man's material well-being has improved most dramatically.

Population and geographical size plays a major role in a countries success because smaller means easier and more efficient state management. In fact, 9 out of the 10 countries that have the highest per capita GDP have populations of about 6M. 9 out of 10 of these also rank very high in economic freedom index. The numbers show the correlation, economic theory explains the cause-effect relationship. It's something socialists are too ignorant and hard headed to learn.

I assume you are a hard headed socialist and will not budge from your belief of empirical verification that socialism works so you might want to take a look at "The Myth of Scandinavian Socialism" in the forums section at mises(dot)org

Actually George Orwell was a socialists (read Homage to Catolina) and he wrote 1984 about the abuses of capitalism that he saw in Great Britain. But in reality 1984 is about Totalitarian governments, they don't have to be communists. You can have a totalitarian system of oppression in a capitalists system.
