Thankfully, it does not follow the Disney movie. While it's one of Disney's best movies (and my favorite Disney one, no doubt), I find it one of the worst versions of NDdP.

I also think, of the seven movie versions I have seen so far, nothing came as close to the novel as this musical.

@BlueMoonlight01 Having just finished reading the novel, I agree.

I cant wait for them to bring it over here to the States.

Little Quasimodo, the only really lovely person in the entire story...

Did you read the novel? He's a lot less lovely in it. Luc Plamondon and Garou did an amazing job changing the character without making him look like Disney's Quasimodo.

I've read the novel a good number of times over the past 12 years since I discovered it, thank you. Opinions are nice things to have.

That's why I find him lovely in the novel. He can be malicious, vicious, and kills remorselessly but he does these things because he has not known kindness. Once he experiences kindness, he surrenders his very soul to that person (first Frollo, then Esmeralda) and loves, better yet worships, blindly but purely, selflessly, and wholeheartedly. Phoebus lusts, uses, then discards; Frollo lusts, obsesses, attempts manipulation; but Quasimodo *loves*.
