Today is about suicide. 1979 is about being bored and left out so much that drugs are the only way out.

I love the Pumpkins but they are really depressing.

I don't think that they are depressing at all.

Not sure if that is true about 1979, to each their own when it comes down to dissecting a song. I just think it's about bored kids. Billy Corgan is VERY anti-drugs, so it just doesn't seem like he would write about them, even if it's subliminal.

Just my opinion.

I usually don't try to read too much into lyrics, or try to figure what they are really trying to say. I just listen to it.
