He is using the scaling gizmo known in blender as manipulator. default is the translate manipulator where you would see red, green and blue arrows. To change it to the scale manipulator press Ctrl+Alt+R. The arrows would be replaced with lines ending in boxes. In his example he uses the x(red) and y(green) manipulator to scale in x and y axis.

To bend he uses rotate (R) and rotate his selection.

Opps I mean Ctrl+Alt+S, Ctrl+Alt+R is the rotate manipulator.

ok so how do i do the thing at 1.10 to 1.15 the spliting the box thing ?i just get a longer box and its driving me nuts,Please show me
