I believe Mick Jagger wrote this song partially about Tariq Ali, the current editor of the New Left Review, who was largely involved with the protests in London against the Labour Party's and Harold Wilson's support of the Vietnam War. I strongly dislike that famous image of the white burgousie liberal inserting the flow into the barrel of the rifle. It's weak and cliche however images from Czechoslovakia in 1968 are still poignant.
