Big Wave Surfing Training !! He Blows out all his air. Then sits on the bottom of the pool for 1 min 30 - then swims 50 meters underwater with no flippers !!
This is his training in preparation for catching massive waves and potentially being held under for a set of 3 or 4 waves.

You don't exhale to "empty your lungs." You hyperventilate to get rid of CO2 and then take a huge breath and hold it. If you are able to slow down your metabolism, as people who train this way and beyond (world champion free divers, as the prime example), you can hold it a long time.

You're totally wrong. Check out the breathholding/freediving competitions. They hyperventilate to rid their bodies of CO2 before the breathhold.
