I'd say one of the biggest things that is preventing plastics getting recycled is that the recycling places are only accepting what they can make a profit on. Here in Montana glass & plastics are rarely recycled b/c the recycling centers are losing money when they recycle those items. Maybe the government needs to do some subsidies for recycling businesses.

the oil company's need to be held responcible for this since the plastic id made from oil. just like the cigarett compans were held responcible for their poision.

pipinki,

Your right, the fish and the sun do a great job. The sun breaks the plastic to small enough parts so that fish, birds and whales can eat it and die from it. But when the fish die the plastic does not die with them, it returns to the patch. The same square foot of plastic pieces will kill animal life for hundreds of years. We are all environmentalist in one form or another. Cleanliness is not a conspiracy.

sounds like the sun, the ocean, and the fish are doing a pretty good job getting rid of the plastic. and just like global warming, it's a phony alarmist issue to funnel money to environmentalists

Why don't we switch over to biodegradable plastics? I think that would be a good start as well as recycling and reducing... I've seen plastic bottles made out of CORN instead of oil that is renewable and biodegradable.

Even if we stopped manufacturing plastics tomorrow, the amount of it we've dumped on the world is still staggering. It's a part of our every day life, you can't get away from it. Plastics will be around for thousands of years even if no more was made. I'm reading The World Without Us right now for my Environmental Science studies, it's a really good book that I think everyone should read. Check it out. It talks about the whole plastic problem and junk..

Isn't it disgusting how far we have come in technology but we keep doing this mess. Shows how lazy an selfish we are. An under the thumbs of the powers that be. We try to stop the plastic companies we will have the same fight on our hands that we do on cap an trade an health reform. I read someone's comment on another vid like this an he said Fuck you I'm an American in a free country I can do what I want. That is the mentality we are up against. Crazy isn't it

Extremly. I encourage your feelings about this problem. I don't know what will become of this, unless making plastic becomes illegal alltogether.
