I believe the American version is the oldest version.

You are correct. The "American" version is the original version as the music in that version is the music used by the original writer of the carol. He was a minister in a church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

I live in the uk and I love the american version( also the canadian version) and the uk version
they are both beautiful

He is always fine, but, as an American, I would love to hear him sing this. carol in the tube that we all know. Interestingly, when I was in the UAE, after attending our American Baptist service, I would sometimes attend the Anglican service and would recognize nearly every hymn, but the tune was absolutely unfamiliar. This is not to say their tune was bad, but it was very difficult to sing.
