it actually happens all the time. It doesn't have to be this particular situation. change blindness happens in everyday life

for those of us who taken psychology that is

The reason why it happens is because they are not focused on him but the experiment, we are focused on the task at hand, rather than our environment, it really isnt surprising that its is 75% of ppl who do this... look up hindsight bias may give you something to ponder if you think its crazy that this happens so often...
