This is my response to a really bad demo that I did for Scott Kirsner of the Boston Globe. I showed Scott a number of speech-enabled products including this TomTom 920. I was shocked when it didn't work because I use this device all the time and so far it has been flawless. This video describes what happened.

****WARNING**** Shoppers: TomTom's no longer offer FM transmitting of voice instruction but TomTom & its retailers continue to FALSELY ADVERTISE the feature.
Existing TomTom users: if you update firmware above 8.01 you LOSE the feature also. TomTom has disabled this feature for the entire world. Garmin, took a much more logical approach & only disabled it in 2 European countries that ban FM tranmission.
BUY THE GARMIN - better maps and no tricky updates or false advertising.
Actually, TomTom just announced a brand new unit with 130 speech commands (this one I showed only supported address entry by voice). I just saw the new one at CES in Las Vegas - very impressive.
garmin is already ahead with full voice recognition on their whole usnit including pois, menu, and address for a hefty price.....im sure tom tom can catch up and offer a lower price.
When you download the newest update to either the 720, or the 920-T, it loses its ability to ask your destination, or recognize you response. Company glitch. The're working on a patch.....
It works well with Spanish street names - in a couple ways. First of all, our speech recognition technology is available in many languages, including Spanish. Secondly, street names in the US can be pronounced with their Spanish pronunciation and understood correctly.
