"General Motors had to do what Roosevelt told them they had to do. The same thing has to happen now. President-elect Obama has to say to them, 'yes, we're going to use this money to save these jobs but we're not going to build these gas-guzzling, unsafe vehicles any longer. So, we're going to put these companies into some sort of receivership and we, the government, are going to hold the reigns on these companies. And they are to build mass transit, they are to build hybrid cars, they are to build cars that use little or no gasoline, because we're facing a national crisis.'" -- Michael Moore on Larry King Live, Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

when dealing with a crisis like this, it would be foolish to only look at economics and base your decisions off of that...you must look at history and see what has worked and what hasnt worked in the past...history repeats itself
Someone needs a lesson in economics. What you describe does not help the economy, and I don't condone it, either. What I would like to see is the government not wasting our money by bailing out banks and businesses that have no business staying alive. I would like to see the government stop taking the people's own money from them. I would like to see the government stop these programs all in the name of "saving jobs" and "helping the poor," when in reality they hurt the poor and unemployed.
Marxism includes controlling economic modes of production by the power of the government. So in that regard, yes, Roosevelt was marxist. I don't call him that because I don't like him; that would be unintelligent and non-productive. I attribute that label to him because of what he did.
obama is not much different from bush from my point of view huge spending cant fight a war obama supported war in afghannystanny and won't commit to fighting a war
The Obama administration has done the same thing. Look at the TARP money. They're not even sure where the hell some of it went. He allowed companies to receive bailouts which they were LEGALLY allowed to use for giving out bonuses to CEO's. I love when Obamaites try to criticize the Bush administration for the same shit the Obama administration does. Don't hold your breath on Obama ending the wars in the Middle East, abolishing the Patriot Act, saying "no" to more bailouts, etc.
It's not a free market during all these "corruptions", you fucking bozo. That's the whole goddamn point!
The government should have never bought up GM. At least if GM filed for bankruptcy another company could have bought them out and turned them around. Propping up bad debt with tax money doesn't help anything. At least if a private company bought them out they could have saved the company at their own expense (no tax money involved) and GM would have liquidated the bad debt.
The gov. is a major investor and wants the business to do well, for the sake of the economy. Not for regulating for the sake of regulantn' So if these companies take bailout, they will have to go through high regulation, it's not free money. Maybe what Roosevelt did w/ Ford may not be a free market but it helped create jobs. It's not about personal opinions, it's about what will create jobs and build the economy. If the economy improves. I do not see how gov. meddling is appropriate?
