the term 10% is 10/100

a 1 out of 10 chance of an athiest landing in jail. Therefore 1% would be in jail, but since most athiests aren't physco's (sorry for spelling) then .02% is reasonable. It's easy to pick on the majority

But then, if the percentage of atheists in the US is 10% (it's actually higjer), why isn't the prison population 10% atheist?

You're completely missing the meaning of the stats.

The stats demonstrate that the % of the prison population reflects exactly the % f the general US population. But the atheist prison population is much lower than the general US population.

In other words, people that disbelieve in gods are less likely to commit crimes than believers.
