Darren Schmidt pioneered the first work at National Instruments with CUDA for LabVIEW. He talks about his recent work on how he would control the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT) using LabVIEW and CUDA. The European Southern Observatory (ESO) is working on a 40M mirror (nearly half a football fields length) and is challenged in focusing the 984 discreet hexagonal individual mirrors due to over 3,000 sensors and 3,000 actuators required to focus this incredible telescope.
