You want to get that battery up off the concrete slab. The slab will discharge it. A piece of plywood or any other non-conductive material would do the trick.

That was with batteries 30 years ago. The new plastic don't allow seepage, thus grounding them out and draining them.

I would Like to share a little info with you ...You can get a 12 volt converter to run your pump(s) by using a computer Used power supply inside of the power supply box is 12V+/- and a 6 volt .All you have to do is use a magnifying glass to read inside which is which. I hope this helps....

I used to love this stuff. I would be happy to just get 40mpg like a TDI. If I work one 8 hour day at my regular job I can buy at least 40 gallons of diesel. So even though I may still support "terrorists" :) I know that I wont have to put money into a WVO conversion, and possible engine damage down the road. And before too long used oil will be sold instead of given away free EVERYWHERE. There is already a company here in Boise, Idaho BUYING the oil from every local food joint.

Do you think it would be ok to use the pipe heater on a plastic drum?

I think that would be fine, though I don't think the heat transfer will be as great since it is not metal.
