yeah... it happens. either you get an actor that can't sing, or a singer that can't act. rare to find both.

I think she's a great singer and a great actress, too... I suppose she doesn't do much with her face because she was told to, or perhaps Desdemona sings a prayer in this scene. I've seen the whole movie, and in other scenes her acting is really different and more expressive.

I agree. In a prayer, I think that people just try to calm themselves down from hard emotions. Signora Freni definitely made the right choice. Isn't it gorgeous? That pianissimo is incomparable.

So gorgeous! I cried when I heard Freni sing this. To think that Desdemona dies soon after this is pretty haunting, since she's expressing innocence and desperation in this. The voice is heavenly, and wow, that pianissimo at the end!
