Why do all Blender fluid simulations look like they are in an invisible box?

Blender fluid sims *are* in an invisible box. Its called the domain for the fluid simulation. They take massive amounts of memory and time to calulate so have to be limited someway. Ideally people should use a high enough resolution & large enough domain that they can crop out the edge effects but if people are demo'ing or putting together guide comp's they probably aren't too bothered if the boundary is a little visible at times.
