I LOVE that sound! I've never heard any explosion that sounds like that! LOL
My theory: It has to do with the fact that they packed the explosives into a big metal cylinder that had some measure of elasticity to it. Think about it - metal will bend and stretch under the right forces before giving way. I think what we are hearing is the wavefront of the explosion STRETCHING the metal of the container before giving way. In other words, the biggest METAL "balloon" pop in history!
