Thanks ROBERTLOWELL,do you know if he was like a father figure to her or how was he?

I read about the incident in Sylvia's journals a few years ago, so my memory may not accurate. From what a remember, the man was only a bit older than her, so if she was a teenager, he would be in his early 20's. Also, he was of a lower social class (not college educated; a laborer). I think these days it would be called a "date rape": a term I don't really like - - they knew each other before the sexual assault and afterwards they kind of avoided each other.

(Continued). The man was NOT a father figure. This poem is about her actual father, but of course everything is greatly exaggerated: it's a work of fiction, but the feelings are real (you can tell that by the way she reads!) Her father was never a Nazi and he did not abuse her physically. I think at worst he was emotionally distant. He died when Sylvia was 8 - 10 years old.

@MsCamran Absolutely no evidence that Sylvia was sexually assaulted by her father. However, as a teenager I believe she was molested by an older man.

Does anyone know if footage of Sylvia Plath exists?

I am not questioning the validity of this story, but you have a source for it?
