On September 17, 2007, the Folding@Home distributed computing project crossed over 1000 Teraflops of computing power, cracking the 'Petaflop'. The petaflop has not been reached before by any other Supercomputer, distributed or centralized.
Ever since March when Playstation 3s have been able to participate in Stanford's Folding@Home, the project has seen its average processing power rise from ~200-250 Teraflops to ~750-850 Teraflops. The recent spike has been attributed to further improvements in the PS3's client.
The PS3s will continue to play a massive role in Folding@Home, as more & more Gamers seem to be joining in, crunching data that might lead to a cure in diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's & many Cancers & cancer-related syndromes. The CELL Processor that the PS3 uses is almost perfect for the type of calculations F@H needs to do its work.
Do some other YouTubers out there wanna JOIN IN THE FIGHT against diseases such as Cancer??? Its a very simple program to install.. Just imagine.. while you surf YouTube & other sites, YOU could be helping cure diseases!
PLEASE JOIN IN WITH YOUR PC, MAC, LINUX OR PLAYSTATION 3 AS EVERY NEW PARTICIPANT HELPS STANFORD GET CLOSER TO THEIR GOAL!!!

i wonder why they dont use both the CPU and the GPU in the PS3 for folding? that would surely give them a large boost. and why not release a client for the Xbox 360's GPU? that has unified shaders so it would be easy.
the new GPU clients for PCs are much easier to program for as they are designed with general purpose GPU computing in mind.. whereas the older ones (which feature in both the PS3 & 360) would have to be programmed in a very complicated manner.. and the benefits don't outweigh the potential headaches getting them to work. The RSX GPU in the PS3 currently takes care of the protein visualization.
360 client will never happen becoz of Red Ring of Death trouble..
Microsoft would not want to go to the trouble of making up a program that only shows up its much talked about RROD problems.
Life with Playstation is a program that includes 'channels' and one of the current two is the Folding@Home channel. The Folding@Home channel will always run.. but you can use other channels while work is still being done. They plan to add more channels later.
Lets face it this is a much safer way to find the cure to cancer than what they tried in I am Legend. I've been running none stop to make sure we find the cure before Krippen does.
