In real life he ditched her. There was a court case(long story, try googling) , he openly declared that he does not love her. This after having an affair with her. This seem to have hurt her so badly that she went into acute depression,

i think it was not that but yu br partially right. Madubala took her fathers side and i guess she did the right but dilip kumar did not do the right thing by givinging witness against her. I think he lacked of integrity. If i was dilip kumar i would atleast avoid testifying against her!

Madhubala refused to go for outdoor shootings for Naya Daur on her fathers orders, after signing for the picture with BR Chopra. Dilip said what was right in the court. The real culprit was her father.
The decision against her came incidentally on the day Naya Daur was released with Vyjayantimal who had replaced her.
