Wipe Off 5

Looked all over Youtube and I couldn't find it so; Transport SA's 'Wipe Off 5km' road safety campaign from the mid 90's. I remember seeing this as a child, pretty haunting for a 10yr old. Now I ...

I remember some article from old about how the 60Km/H car was actually doing 40Km/H and the 65Km/H car was doing 70Km/H. So that as well as the imbalance of impact between the two cars the TAC could justify its little campaign.

Hahaha, they had this in WA too, but I'm pretty sure it was only a few years ago. I remember pointing out the inaccuracies in it lol. Faster car hit a harder part of said truck, and also only half of that car hit, so there was less bumper to absorb the impact. Note how the first part of the car to get hit was the bonnet near the windscreen. If they both hit the same part of the truck, it wouldn't look as bad. Also, falcon brakes are shit anyway lol.

I emailed the guy who talks in this advert, and he said that they had to let the guy hit the side because otherwise they'd have had a health and safety nightmare on their hands with the stunt driver. Everything you see in it is real.

Yeah, but, see how the slower car hits and the bumper absorbs all the impact? That's what bumpers are designed to do. Now observe how the faster car doesnt actually hit anything at all with the bumper, so all the impact is absorbed by areas that aren't specifically intended to absorb impact.

Also, something else he says, "no matter how good a driver you are" isn't entirely true. To some extent yes, but as long as you drive within the limits of both you and your car, you should be fine.

There used to be 5 or so copies of this on YouTube, featuring end captions from both New Zealand, and also the various states/territories in Australia, but they seem to have disappeared. Thanks for reuploading it!
