Swim parallel to the beach and catch a wave back in (white water). Worst thing to do is panic and swim against it. Also dont be a hero (or too proud) if your struggling just put your hand up and call for a life guard...
If we don't need "surf scientists", how come so many people drown at the beach? Don't be small-minded: millions of people around the world go into the surf every year, ignorant of the dangers and how the ocean currents, waves and wind are ever-changing. There's a lot to know and understand.
Thank you very much for this video, a dear friend of mine recently drowned in a Rip while holidaying in Brasil for New Years.. He lived in the Gold Coast and used to go to the beach often, he was at a isolated beach with no lifeguards... its so important people learn how to be careful and know what to do.. if only he had watched this video before he left for holiday... This video is now on my facebook site for all my friends to watch.
Thanks for the great video. My 10 year old asked what a rip looks like and I didn't know. I felt like an idiot considering I've been a beach goer for over 30 years. This is the info that should be on the TV ads, approx 5 minutes of video has potentially saved thousands of lives....pass it on to those you love :)
