The year this came out (1966?), I was 22 and a senior at the University of Miami. The day it began, I walked across the street from the U of M and saw it at Loew's Riviera. It was a beautiful afternoon, but when I left the theater, I was cold down to my bones. The only other films to affect me that way were

Was it known even back then that Rock Hudson was gay? I'm liberal and cool with gay marriage, but it's always hard for me to buy into his romantic leading man roles. The part at 1:26 is hard for me to buy into, that he legitimately fears for his life, when in the back of my mind, I see him sort of digging that moment. lol. On a side note, it's hard for me to buy Tom Cruise in his romantic leading guy roles now that I;m old enough and have a pulse on all the rumors surrounding him.

Thanks for sharing this personal anecdote Sir..Just finished watching this movie and got the same feeling,nearly 45 years later!!! There are some feelings that don't change across generations..Did they edit out the nude camp scene in the 66 release??
