I think the scene would've played better with the music toned down a little. She just woke up, after all...

It's an instrumental version of a Sammy Davis Jr. song ("Bee Boom"). The previous night there had been a huge party on the boat and Elizabeth's character was dancing to this song. The reprise is discordant in order to establish the fact that she is hung over from the night before.

What strange, discordant music.
I saw this movie once, on TV, around Christmas 1973. I've never seen it since.

She was a beautiful person who wasn't afraid to make herself look funny.

Liz wasn't afraid to make herself look less than attractive for certain TV and movie roles- in her celebrated 1961 "TWILIGHT ZONE" episode, "Two", she wanted to make her face look MORE haggard than the script called for- in "Johnny Cool", her charcater, "Dare", is not a very nice woman, and her situation and surroundings are pretty horrible (gangster's molls often lead perilous lives and suffer tragic endings in these kind of films). But, my god, who wouldn't want to wake up next to HER?
