This song is not about the nobleness of war, or its glory, or the braveness of the men.

It is about the futility of war, its wrongness. About boys killing other boys who are only fighting for their brothers. They all fight for their brothers, all sides of every war.

I know an older American who talks about his experience in the Battle of the Bulge. He speaks through his tears on behalf of the boys he knew that died. He became a pacifist. He told me the only real lesson of war is pacifism.
