A favorite marching tune of Gen. Custer, this tune is known to have been published in Ireland in 1791 under a different title. Some of the many alternate titles are Brightons Camp, The Rambling Labourer and The Spailpin Fanach. Each incarnation comes with a different set of lyrics as well. This tune was a 19th c. favorite of the U.S., British and Confederate militaries, the lyrics being modified to fit the sympathies of the various armies.
