In response to Newt Gingrich's cheap shots at the American designed, American made, and American powered Chevrolet Volt, claiming you couldn't put a gun rack in the back.... I prove he doesn't know what he's talking about.
Newt's ramblings about things he doesn't understand:

Nice; but what kind of rifle is on the bottom? It looks Kalashnikov pattern in a sporting configuration.

Since you didn't give a number on "hugely expensive to to make", I'll assume you're using the bogus numbers generated by Reuters, which includes the R&D costs divided by the current number of cars; which will always go down in the long run. There are no subsidies; there's a tax credit - which is my money and not anyone else's.
Again; I've never said I wanted to be green - I want to reduce our dependence on foreign controlled resources. American made car, American made power.

you are dancing awfully hard to be ideologically pure. "masked by subsidies" huh? a tax credit is not a subsidy and does not exist until someone buys a car that does not need the gas produced by an oil company that our government gives $4,000,000,000 in subsidies (real money) to every year.
so you were saying... ?

Not a comment on whether it makes economic sense to build...just a little info for those interested in buying.
1) $7500 off - Tax credit
2) Be willing to go to more than 1 dealership.. negotiated $700 below invoice
3) $2000 off - GM Incentive
4) $1000 off - Get the GM card and earn 5% up to $1000 off.
5) $1000 off - GM targeted popups on their website. Usually at the end of the month.
6) $1000 off - sign up for emails your local dealership.
7) 0% Financing - Saved about $1800 over 5 years

I own two Chevy Volt’s . Electric cars are the future , but we still may need to drill for more oil until the transition is made . However , everything hinges on price . Why would we drill for $100 a barrel if we can import for $80 ? If the price goes to $150 we need to have our domestic capacity in place .

Imagine if oil companies had to pay the $32 billion or more for the free overseas military protection of their product each year.....

I would love to order one one of these - as a matter of fact I think you should patented it and market it to chevy. what a great option it would make for anyone (gun owner or not) that wants to give a big "fuck you" to haters!!
love it!!

True!! China purchased 18 mil. cars last year. 6 mil. more than the USA. Auto analysts conservatively predict 30 mil. per year in 10 years. Extending that math, there will be 250 mil. more cars on the road in 10 years in China alone. Add another 150 mil. for a growing India & other countries, & you have 400 mil. cars. We can't drill ourselves out of that. Even if we do, who will pay? Gas goes to the highest bidder. Some predict $8 a gal. in the USA. I will put solar & drive for free.
