  • His british accent made me believe this even more.....

  • @Mcquiz91 because most math teachers don't actually teach you proper maths, because they're also taught like that

a simple example, 5x5 is 25 because if there's five fives, it will equal twenty-five, This is how you teach children maths..

Now, when you reach a bit of a higher level like algebra, teachers not wanting to waste their time, will teach How to do it, not because of why it is so

  • bla bla bla

  • second time ive seen this and its just as inspiring second time round. i agree with everything he says. it all makes such good sense... we need an educational revolution!

  • @fanthor So true, it's why i never did well in math in high school. I never understand why, I was just taught how. In fact, my Algebra teacher - who truly failed most of the kids in his class with non involved and A to B teaching - once told a bunch of us who were seeking help in his distant examples of math "Do or do not. There is no try". I mean, really, way to quote Yoda instead of getting to the real issue: your teaching methods.

  • as much as i see wrong with it, our education system isn't all bad. but what burns me up more than anything is not only those (i.e. teachers) who are satisfied by the status quo, but more so those who feel self-congratulatory about themselves for really not doing a very good job at all. Small minded people will always passionately fight change for the better, even when it's desperately needed. no one should EVER have the attitude that "it's good enough" or "that's just the way things are."

  • It makes me worry that the reason people become such idiots when positioned in big groups is not mob mentality but that we've had our collabrative nature drawn out of us. Education takes it away and all thats left is a void, in which conformatism and blind anger fill instead.

  • @SpicyHam See, here's the thing gramps, pretty soon these guys will take over our world, and believe me, I'd rather have them doing it WELL, than do it horribly and ruin the remainders of my life. Plus, no way in hell am I letting my off springs be dumb.

  • @richl Depends. Some people excel better in a certain environment. What we ought to do is give kids the availability of every kind of learning.

  • Genius, love this presentation!

  • I think all competition should be abolished. I am nearly retarded in my ability to achieve, competition killed me. Co-operate not compete.
