CAN - THE LOST TAPES (Midnight Sky)

Can 3CD Box Set - 'The Lost Tapes' released on Mute
OUT NOW - UK: http://bit.ly/can-thelosttapes / US: http://amzn.to/Jdnvds

Limited edition numbered 10" square, old fashioned tape box style packaging with 24 page 10" booklet.

Includes exclusive sleeve notes by Irmin Schmidt and Ian Harrison.

The Lost Tapes is a 3 CD set of unreleased tracks, they are an opportunity to hear unreleased material, brand new tracks as if you were there, from the halcyon days, not outtakes.

The tracks cover the period from 1968 through to 1977 and were compiled by Irmin Schmidt and Daniel Miller.
The album features studio material recorded at Schloss Nörvenich and Can Studio, Weilerswist with the Can line up of Holger Czukay on bass, Michael Karoli on guitars, Jaki Liebezeit on drums and Irmin Schmidt on keyboards, and on most tracks, vocals from Malcolm Mooney or Damo Suzuki.

Irmin Schmidt explains "Obviously the tapes weren't really lost, but were left in the cupboards of the studio archives for so long everybody just forgot about them. Everybody except Hildegard, who watches over Can and its work like the dragon over the gold of the Nibelungen and doesn't allow forgetting."

the horrible thing is - Can have always been pretty much my favourite band (although of course i always say that about maybe 5 or 6 other bands)...but in the end i find myself totally not bothered about this box...it's not all new material, is it? Just crapper early versions of stuff that came out already.

Vinyl only sounds better if its mastered better then the cd, and thats assuming its not a noisy vinyl pressing. And having higher collecting value has what exactly to do with the sound? You buy the should buy the vinyl or cd for the music, not how collectible it is. Not to mention records cost much more then cds nowadays because record labels know they can milk vinyl fans hard since they'll buy it anyway, the can lost tapes vinyl set costs around $70 vs $16 for the cd set.

    Educate yourself.

We'll agree to agree that 45rpm 12" sounds superb. I had `Metal Box'. 'nuff said.

I wish you well, and hope that you can at least enjoy Can on CD until you get what you wish for !

Yeah, sorry, my comment about your soul was a bit crass. And actually I love syd to bits, of course cried like a baby when he died. Vinyl still sounds about a billion times better though! Obv there are flaws with it, especially if the pressing is quiet etc, but a properly mastered and manufactured 12" at 45rpm will always always sound better, louder (without the loudness war nonsense that CD mastering has brought to music), warmer, deeper, richer. There is chaos on vinyl, digital doesn't have it

And whilst we're at it, I gave all my Can CDs to this girl I was in Love with when i was around 19 years old, she was great and i was dumb anough to get the Spoon CDs and think i didn't need the vinyl, even though ANYONE, even people that work at Mute, will tell you those first re-issue CDs sounded absolutely fucking atrocious. And now I have those CDs, the better ones that came out a few years ago, and bought new old vinyls. And the vinyl sounds best

took your own comment down huh? Actually you were right, i bought my copy of Tago Mago with my pocket money. I was thirteeen years old and i only got into Can because i asked the guy at the record shop if there was anyone else as good as Silver Apples. So yeah, i am painfully hip, i been playing Can records inbetween all kinds of techno in my DJ sets since Acid House were a lad. As far as Spotify, someone somewhere was trying to sell our music, but I don't even own the CDs, just the vinyl.
