Osprey -- the ultimate fisher

Hovering at moderate height, the osprey dramatically plunges down feet first to snatch fish from the water's surface. A shake of the head as it emerges from the water; the osprey carries its skilfully captured prey with its long talons.

Amazing footage! I'm lucky enough to have a pair of osprey nesting on a microwave/cell platform about 150 yards from my office (and that I can watch through binoculars from my office window on the 7th floor). They're still fine-tuning the nest and it's incredible watching them haul in 5' sticks and bring in their fish catches. One of these days I'll get lucky enough to catch them while fishing at the nearby river.

These beautiful raptors were once all but wiped out in my area, but careful conservation and proper use of osprey stands have brought them back in great numbers. I saw one soaring on a walk through a local park last weekend. An amazing sight.
