The Union didn't fight the war in order to end slavery.

The North would have attacked regardless of what happened to the many, not just one, federal forts stationed in the south

The south brainwashed its citizens into believing that slavery was necessary for ANY civilization to be great

"Human experience shows the universal success of slave society, and the universal failure of free society..The little experiment of free society in Western Europe has been, from the beginning, a cruel failure, and symptoms of failure are abundant in our North..Free society, in the long run, is an impracticable form of society; it is every where starving, demoralized, and insurrectionary"

    >>"Of the 11 southern states that seceded only 4 mentioned slavery."

Only 4 southern states declared their official causes of secession. And all 4 of them declared that slavery was the primary cause.

The poor union soldiers were trapped. By army regs they can not leave their post. I still say SC hotheads and Jeff Davis started shooting unnecessarily and at the wrong time.

I have been on Fort Sumter twice and never noticed it was man made. Nor knew title was sold to the north. Thank you for the interesting facts.

Of the 11 southern states that seceded only 4 mentioned slavery. If you think 3 million southern men left familes, fought, and many died over slavery that defies common logic.

Why the hell should the soldiers leave? It's their fort.

I guess you're not aware that the island on which Fort Sumter was built was a man made island, constructed and financed entirely by the federal government, and South Carolina sold the title and all rights to the new island to the federal government.

The southern states refused to even discuss the future abolition of slavery. They hoped and planned for slavery to last for eternity.

The Union gained the moral high ground after the attack on Fort Sumter. If the south believed that the Union would attack anyway, then just wait for an invasion and THEN attack Fort Sumter.

South Carolina fired on fort Sumter because it was on their land and in position to fire on Charleston harbor shipping. Nothing about slavery.

The issue of slavery would have probably been resolved by political negotition if the SC hotheads would not have started secession and shooting so soon.

You are correct about that sort of. The South Attacked Fort Sumter as the U.s Soldiers stationed there refused to leave. The south had even warned them but they didn't leave so they did what they said.
